While yesterday did not end on a great note, we have one more day to stage a great finish to a great Fest {pun compliments welcome}!

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! No Andy Williams, not Christmas, the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, the unchallenged greatest music and culture event on the planet. I hope you all had better luck getting to see all your picks yesterday that I did. It was so great being out there and seeing the sights and sounds and my Fest friends that I just do not know where the day went.

Today –

If I could only see one stage today it might be Fais Do Do. Jambalaya with Cajun living legend D. L. Menard gets the party started, followed by the lovely and talented Gal Holiday. Louisiana legends Warren Storm and Tommy McLean appear next with Willie Tee & Cypress. The three closing acts sandwich the Osborne Brothers between the zydeco sounds of Keith Frank and the Zydeco Sweetheart herself, Rosie Ledet.

I was shocked and saddened to hear of Chef Paul Prudhomme's sudden passing yesterday. I first met the great chef at a Fancy Food show in 2003. I had the opportunity to work with him and Chef John Folse on a photo shoot, and on two different cooking demonstration stages. The first one was outdoors, it was 95 degrees, and an audience of well over 100 people sat at rapt attention in the blazing sun. It was inspiring. He will be missed.

If you find the beauty of an aquarium a peaceful counterpoint to typical New Orleans nightlife, this is your opportunity to enjoy the best of both worlds. This Friday, September 11, is the 6^th Annual Scales & Ales to support the Audubon Aquarium of the Americas’ conservation efforts and education programs. Partygoers will enjoy Bites and Brews including: Abita Beer, wine, specialty cocktails, and delicious cuisine from more than 40 local restaurants. The evening’s entertainment will feature the world’s premier video DJ, Roonie G, and local sensation DJ Brice Nice.

This year, we grew Tabasco and jalapeño peppers, with great success. You can only eat so many of them; what to do with the rest? I set aside a few to dry for seeds for next year, of course, but I still had loads of peppers. So- I decided to make a batch of pepper jelly with the Tabaso peppers, and pepper vinegar with the jalapeños. We Southerners love to add a splash of hot vinegar to greens, blackeyes, etc. and *I* like to use pepper jelly in vinaigrettes, particularly for salads with fruit in them, and to glaze pork and chicken on the grill.

Walking down her city blocks the damage to this great city is still very clear and paramount, but this didn’t stop me from taking time out of my visit to roam 22 blocks over from New Orleans’ famed Bourbon Street, passing by Jackson Square and all the eclectic restaurants so many frequent to guide my compass down to Bywater, following the path lain before me to unearth one of Nola’s hidden treasures – Booty’s Street Food.
