Dump Cake
Recipe courtesy of Nancy Wilson for Louisiana Kitchen & Culture
Serves 12
This cake seems to have been the busy homemaker’s answer to a quick and easy dessert. By definition, it is not a cake, but it is made with some off-the-grocery-shelf prepared products that made it an easy answer to a dessert that the whole family could enjoy. Many variations followed this initial recipe, including one made with spice cake mix and apple pie filling.

Preheat oven to 350°F.
Butter a 9x13-inch pan. Spread crushed pineapple on bottom of pan. Pour cherry pie filling on top of pineapple; sprinkle cake mix over fruit. Give the pan a quick shake to evenly distribute ingredients, then pour butter evenly over everything. Transfer to oven and bake 30 minutes; sprinkle nuts over cake and bake for an additional 20 minutes. Serve warm with ice cream.
