Congratulations to my friend Jeff Young on the pending publication of his first book, Around the Table with the Catholic Foodie: Middle Eastern Cuisine. He conducts tours of the Holy Land and has pulled together a collection of great recipes celebrating that ancient culinary heritage. You can preorder a copy today, or, if you find yourself in Covington on the 18th, LOLA is hosting a dinner party in his honor. Tickets include an authographed copy of the book. ust two weeks to go. It's one of my favorite holidays of the year; I love turkey, stuffing, and gravy and always make sure there's plenty for leftovers. What do you consider to be a necessity for your Thanksgiving menu? Email me, and include a recipe if you have one. I've spent the week in the kitchen — we've developed some pretty spectacular recipes for the Jan/Feb issue, including easy homemade pasta we're turning into ravioli stuffed with all kinds of goodness. My second-generation Italian husband declared the final version almost as good as his Nona made, straight from the Old Country. I'll take that as a compliment. The Nov/Dec issue (pictured at right) is hitting subscriber mail boxes and readers are loving it. Regular contributor Wendy Waren developed a Satsuma Rum Cake for the issue that's full of flavor; I think the Gingerbread House Workshop challenge is the most fun. Readers can submit photos of their own creations and enter to win a copy of Ralph Brennan's New Orleans Seafood Cookbook and use it to create their own feasts. There's lots more in the issue -- holiday cookies, endless variations on a simple fudge recipe, and feast food for the entire season. Pick it up on a newsstand if you're not a subscriber, or call us at 504-208-9959 to order a copy. Enjoy this week's recipes, share them with family and friends, and, as always, let me know what's on your mind.
