Congratulations to my friend George Graham on the recent publication of his fantastic cookbook, Acadiana Table. I was sent an advance copy earlier this year and have flagged many recipes I intend to make this fall; you'll find an excerpt from the cookbook, along with a few recipes, in the upcoming holiday edition of Louisiana Kitchen & Culture. Meanwhile, he'll be signing books around the region over the next couple of months; a cookbook signed by the author is a great gift for yourself, and others on your gift list who like to cook. I am really looking forward to the world premiere of Commanding the Table, the new documentary on Ella Brennan's extraordinary life (tickets available here.) I've seen the trailer, and it promises to be as fascinating and entertaining as her memoir, Miss Ella of Commander's Palace, which was released earlier this year. My friend Jody brought me a basket full of eggs from her chicken coops this morning; I'm trying to decide how to put them to good use. I like to mix chopped leftover steak with potatoes that have been cooked down with lots of garlic and onion and put a poached egg on top; maybe I'll put steak on the agenda for the weekend.
