I am looking forward to some great food this week. I started yesterday with lunch at Quebedeaux's Boudin and Cracklins in Alexandria, then went on to Janohn's in Boyce for a photo shoot and tasting. I spent the night at Loyd Hall and Plantation and enjoyed a lovely breakfast this morning; I'm heading out to have lunch in historic Crowley, location to be determined. Later today I'll head west to Regatta in Lake Arthur, then check in to L'auberge Casino Resort in Lake Charles, where we'll enjoy a progressive supper at Restaurant Calla and Mazen's Mediterranean Restaurant. Friday we'll start with a Boudin Breakfast at Sausage Link Specialty Meats, check out several points along the Creole Nature Trail, then head to Seafood Palace for lunch. Friday evening our group will head to the Marshland Festival to hear Keith Frank and the Soileau Zydeco Band and sample various Cajun delicacies. Saturday morning we'll recover, then reconvene for lunch at Asia to sample some Louisiana- and Texas-inspired sushi. Next up, Rabideaux's Sausage Kitchen and a tour of Louisiana Spirits, distillers of my favorite, Bayou Rum. Saturday evening we'll enjoy a five-course dinner, complete with wine pairings, at La Truffe Sauvage, exquisite fine dining in Lake Charles. The trip winds up with a Whiskey Jazz Brunch at Jack Daniel's Bar and Grill. Sunday afternoon I'll waddle back to New Orleans, and yes, there will be an ice chest full of boudin and other delicacies in the car with me. See our list of what's happening around Louisiana below and find something to do this weekend, even if it's just staying cool. Whatever you decide, enjoy the recipes this week, share them with family and friends, and, as always, let me know what's on your mind.
