We're astounded that it's likely to be a chilly 65°F in the early hours tomorrow; it's mid-July. North Dakota subscriber Jay called to renew today and asked about the weather (he also has a place in Abbeville) and laughed at our consternation; he said it was 39° when he got up yesterday. I'll take hot over cold any day. We're finishing up photo shoots this week for our September/October issue, and it's going to be an Acadiana blockbuster. Cajun Comfort Food we shot at a subscriber's house in Breaux Bridge, a visit to Ville Platte turned into a two-day house party, and Chef Mark Falgoust of Grand Isle Restaurant took us to his family home in Pierre Part where he cooked up some local favorites. All very much Acadiana, all very different, albeit in sometimes subtle ways. I thoroughly enjoyed eating my way through that part of the state, and I think our print subscribers will thoroughly enjoy reading about it (and cooking the recipes!) Hint: if you don't subscribe to our print magazine, now is a good time to start. Speaking of print, the cover pictured on the right is in the mail; subscribers closest to our printer in Little Rock, AR are reporting receipt of copies. I think it's one of the best issues we've produced, and has recipes that will be favorites for a long time to come. If you've received your copy yet, let me know what you think: drop me an email. Earlier this week I had business on the Northshore and had lunch with some of my friends from the St. Tammany Parish tourism group; we went to Jubilee in Mandeville. The food was fantastic, but I'd expect nothing less from Chef Tory Stewart. In town this week is Emma, a young lady I've known -- and have fed at my table often -- since she was just two years old; I'm cooking dinner for her tonight. Not sure what yet, but I'm leaning toward BBQ Shrimp. Also in town is my friend Charlie; she was born in Hattiesburg, MS, me in neighboring town Laurel, and only a couple of years apart. We met, however, at a bar in San Francisco -- it's a small world. Emma and Charlie now both live in New York, so I'm looking forward to an update on what's happening in that part of the world. Enjoy this week's recipes, share them with family and friends, and, as always, let me know what's on your mind.
